On a recent visit to New York we had the chance to go to NYU’s Grey Art Gallery to see a show we’ve done work for, ‘The Geometry of Hope. Latin American Abstract Art from the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection’. We really enjoyed the exhibition, which is on until the 8th of December, 2007.<\/p>\n

It’s the most comprehensive overview to date of geometrical abstraction in Latin America from the 1930s to the 1970s, it includes 115 works from the acclaimed Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection<\/strong> and was originally organized by the Blanton Museum of Art, at The University of Texas at Austin, where it was seen earlier this year.<\/p>\n

This is what Grey Art Gallery Director Lynn Gumpert<\/strong> had to say: \u201cThis exhibition promises to be an eye-opening experience for our visitors, especially those for whom the term \u2018modern Latin American art\u2019 generally connotes figurative painting or political murals. With many superb works from one of the world\u2019s great collections of modern and contemporary art from Latin America, ‘The Geometry of Hope’ will reveal that abstraction south of the border is anything but provincial and, indeed, developed within and influenced the international avant-garde.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Grey Art Gallery<\/strong> is New York University\u2019s fine-arts museum and it’s on Washington Square Park, in New York City\u2019s Greenwich Village. Exhibitions and programs at the Gallery focus on art\u2019s historical, cultural, and social contexts, with special emphasis on experimentation and interpretation.<\/p>\n
