Luis Camnitzer at El Museo del Barrio in New York

Luis Camnitzer, The Photograph

The Luis Camnitzer exhibition organized by Daros Latinamerica last year opens today at El Museo del Barrio in New York. It ends on the 29th of May.

Conceptual artist Luis Camnitzer, born in 1937 in Germany, raised in Uruguay, and working in New York for the past three decades, has persevered for nearly five decades as an influential creator, critic, writer, theorist, teacher, and curator – a true «artist’s artist».

The show is curated by Hans-Michael Herzog and Katrin Steffen, and Barcelona Kontext has contributed several translations to the catalogue.

El Museo del Barrio, New York’s leading Latino cultural institution, welcomes visitors of all backgrounds to discover the artistic landscape of Latino, Caribbean, and Latin American cultures. Their richness is represented in El Museo’s wide-ranging collections and exhibitions, complemented by film, literary, visual and performing arts series, cultural celebrations, and educational programs. A dynamic artistic, cultural, and community gathering place, El Museo is a center of cultural pride on New York’s Museum Mile.
